What the people of Picton had to do was, they had to drape drape t-shirts, towels and sarongs over the beached whales. They also had to try and use pots, bowls and more to carry water and drape it over the beached whales. There were also two people who had noticed it at first and that was a lady and a German tourist, the German tourist noticed it and rang the department of conversations then the news reporters.

Hi Makayla,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this really informative post with us. I did not realise that it was a German tourist who first spotted the whales and rang the Department of Conservation. It is really sad to know that they weren't able to save every whale but I am really impressed that so many people came out and did what they could to help.
Hopefully the whales won't make the same mistake next year and end up stuck on the spit again. Fingers crossed!
Cheers,
Rachel :)
