After that we had to fry our Mince till it was cooked and then add in our tomatoes and mix everything together. After that we let it simmer a little bit. Writing - Text Response

In 'The Sniper' the author had a very unique way of conveying the theme in the opening paragraph. For example the author used many words that related to darkness, so that we'd have a very dark image of Dublin in our minds. For example he wrote "Dublin lay enveloped in darkness but for the dim light of the moon that shone through fleecy clouds, casting a pale light as of approaching dawn over the streets and the dark waters of the Liffey", and with this sentence he described the scene very well. This also tells us that this story will consist of a tragedy or something around those lines.

Tech @ Tamaki // Vegetable Bean Patties

Today at Tech we made 'Vegetable Bean Patties'. It was very delicious and tasty. Today I cooked with Skye, we worked very well together.

The ingredients were:
  • Capsicum
  • Beans
  • Zucchini
  • Red onion
  • Carrot
  • Eggs
  • Bread Crumbs
The first thing we did was grate our Capsicum, Zucchini and Carrot, We also had to dice up our Red onion. While one of us were grating the veges and dicing up the onion, the other was mashing up the beans. Once all the veges were grated and the beans were mashed, we had to add the two eggs and veges into the bean mixture. After adding our ingredients together we had to mix them till they were well combined. After that we received some bread crumbs, we then had to mix the bread crumbs into our mixture which made it a bit hold-able. After that it was time to roll our patties. We divided ours into six, then rolled them into patty-like shapes. After that it was time to cook it, we cooked ours till it was nice and brown on each side. After that we had the final product.

Team 5 Museum Trip

Last week on Friday, Team 5 went on a trip to the Auckland Museum. Fortunately for us KPMG, our major sponsor paid for us to go. As we were going to the museum we were split in groups. I was in a group together with Amelia and Naomi, when we got to the museum we found out that we will be with a KPMG volunteer for the day. Me and my group were with a kind woman named Alex. She was very polite and fun to be around during the time we were with her.

She came all around the museum with us and spent a whole day with us. She took photos of us, looked after us and laughed with us. I along with my group were very happy to have her as our volunteer, we felt very comfortable with her and had many fun. My favorite part of the day was 'The Winter Garden'. I found it very beautiful and exotic, I liked all the different flowers and plants. Overall I had a really great day with my friends and Alex.

Scientific Method: Onion Cells

Aim: Find a clear picture of onion cells.

Hypothesis: I think that we will be able to see a clear picture of onion cells at a magnification of 100x

Equipment:

  • 1 Onion
  • A slide
  • A cover slip
  • Tweezers
  • Blue stain

Method: The first thing we did was collect a thin layer of skin from the onion using tweezers, we then added it to our slide. After that we had to add a drop of saline to our slide that had our onion on it. After that we also had to add a drop of blue stain. Lastly we had to put a cover slip on top of our slide. Once we did that our slide was ready to look at.

Observation/Conclusion: Once we looked at it through the microscope, we tried the magnification of 4x. When we looked at it, it looked like a lot of lines connected with many small dots surrounding it. When we looked at it in the magnification of 10x I could already see it clearly. It looked like the pattern of honeycomb. It was connected together and the pattern it had looked a lot like purple honeycomb.

The onion cells we looked a lot like this.
